Your bio: Mary is a 42-year resident of Shasta County. She and her husband, Jim, established a farm/ranch management, appraisal and brokerage firm in the 1980s and live in McArthur. They currently manage 40,000 acres in five northeastern California counties and are the managing partners of Prather Ranch, a vertically integrated beef cattle operation. It’s a sustainable ranching operation, well known for its environmentally progressive practices. Prather Ranch has been recognized on the state, national and international level with many awards, including the Aldo Leopold Award, the Governor’s Economic and Environmental Leadership Award and the Beef Improvement Federation Commercial Producer of the Year Award in North America. The Rickerts and Prather Ranch were profiled recently in Oxford, England, at an International Agricultural Conference.
Mary always has been a full partner in their family business, but also has spent any spare time she had raising three children and being actively involved in her community on many levels. She served on the Shasta College Ag Advisory Board, was the founding member of the Burney Fall River Education Foundation, Scholarship Chair of her AAUW, served on the Shasta County Mental Health, Alcohol and Drug Board, sits on the Shasta Regional Community Foundation Board and mentored a teen through Plus One Mentoring.
