BarbYour name: Barbara Grosch

How do we connect with you on social media: Facebook

Your bio: I grew up in Detroit, Michigan, and graduated from Concordia College in Chicago with a degree in education. After teaching for a few years, I worked toward my master’s degree in Montessori education.

I moved to Oakland, California, in 1981 with my family and taught in a Montessori school in Alameda, and then a preschool program at our church, working with a wonderful group of refugee children from Southeast Asia, none of whom spoke English.

Our family moved to Redding in 1987 and I started the Southeast Asian Christian Ministry, an outreach/support program for refugees and immigrants. SEACM is now in its 29th year and continues to do this exciting work.

I worked in the Enterprise Elementary School District for 12 years, coordinating four preschool programs, directing the Even Start Family Literacy program and served for one year as assistant principal at Mistletoe School. I also taught ECE classes at Shasta College and National University.

Upon retirement, I continued my work with SEACM as a board member and also became a Mended Hearts volunteer at Mercy Hospital following open heart surgery in 2009. Other activities include quilting and starting a book club in 2007. I love to read. My husband, Bob, and I enjoy exploring with our little Rialta camper and have logged thousands of miles on our travel adventures.

I am delighted to be a part of The Womens’ Fund and was especially pleased to be able to reconnect with several friends that I had not seen for many years. This is a result of being in the TWF. I appreciate and celebrate the dedication and determination of the women I have met through my involvement in TWF. They inspire me.

My greatest joy right now is spending time with my five grandchildren, ranging in age from 5 to 18. I feel blessed to be a part of this community and will continue to work toward greater diversity in Shasta County and in TWF.
